The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Nikola Selaković, met today in Angola with the highest officials of that country, and in the meetings, it was emphasized that the relations between our countries are friendly, open and sincere, and that steps should be taken to transfer the high level of political relations to the field of economic cooperation.
After the meeting with the President of Angola, João Lourenço, Selaković told the reporters that there are numerous opportunities to improve the economic relations between our two countries, and that a meeting of the two heads of state will be held soon, which will be a clear sign to the Serbian business community regarding the investment opportunities in Angola.
"We have made drafts of several agreements, which should be signed at the highest level, and which will be of key importance for the improvement of economic cooperation", Selaković said.
At this moment, as he reminded, several Serbian companies are already operating in Angola, such as "Planum", but there is interest from other companies as well, which need clear political and legislative confirmation of investment opportunities.
"We have a very high level of opportunities for economic cooperation, but a low level of utilization of those opportunities on the ground", Selaković stated.
He explained that one of the main reasons for the visit to Angola was the donation of Serbia in the form of 50,000 doses of Sputnik-V vaccine against the corona virus, which once again confirmed that Serbia and Angola are two friendly and fraternal countries.
We are, as he said, countries committed to the same values, we respect international law, we do not interfere in the affairs of other countries, and we support each other in international organizations.
"These values were recognized and confirmed by our statesmen 60 years ago, at a time when the peoples of Africa were fighting for freedom and their rights, and against colonization, and that is when the first conference of the Non-Aligned Movement was held in Belgrade", said the head of Serbian diplomacy.
Selaković said that the meeting with President Lourenço was also an opportunity to convey the invitation for the participation of the Angolan delegation in the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement conference in Belgrade.
"The meeting with the president was also an opportunity to talk about two important topics for my country and our relations. I expressed my gratitude for the strong and consistent support of Angola to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, that is, for the support on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija. Another topic was the need to transfer strong and fraternal traditional relations to the field of economic cooperation", said Minister Selaković.
While in Angola, Minister Selaković also met with Foreign Minister Téte António, as well as with the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta.
